Newport Makes Progress Towards Becoming an Age-Friendly Community
21.5 percent of Newport residents are over the age of 60, and the percentage of the older population could double by 2040 if state trends continue.
At a March 21, 2019 workshop, the city council continued its consideration of becoming an AARP designated “Age-Friendly Community.”
