National Council on Aging (NCOA) Looks to Bridge the Benefits Gap

Accessing essential benefits can be a game-changer for older adults, helping them meet basic needs like food, healthcare, and housing. Yet, millions miss out. Nationwide, almost 9 million eligible older adults are not enrolled in SNAP, 2.3 million are not enrolled in SSI, and almost 5.8 million are not enrolled in MSP.The National Council on Aging (NCOA) received a $250,000, one-year grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to examine factors that contribute to high enrollment rates of older adults in benefits programs within Miami-Dade County, Florida, and Duval County, Texas.

The project aims to identify best practices that other counties can adopt to help enroll eligible older adults into critical programs, including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and Medicare Savings Programs (MSP). Learn more…
