A Rich Legacy Preserved

Rhode Island College recently celebrated the archiving of Herb Weiss’s 45-year body of work, recognizing his contributions as an advocate and journalist focused on healthcare policy, aging services, and government programs affecting older adults. The Herbert P. Weiss Papers, now permanently housed at RIC’s Adams Library, include more than 1,100 pieces—editorials, newsletters, articles, and three books—providing a comprehensive record of how healthcare and aging policy has evolved in Rhode Island over the decades.

The celebration at RIC’s James P. Adams Library brought together more than 55 people, including Lieutenant Governor Sabina Matos, local mayors, and fellow advocates who recognized Weiss for his dedicated work in aging advocacy. Weiss has established himself as a consistent voice in Rhode Island’s aging community through his reporting across multiple platforms, from early work at the Providence Journal to contributions across numerous local publications, addressing aging issues and policy matters affecting older adults.
