CareLink’s “Wisdom for Living” Program

For older adults seeking a deeper sense of purpose and connection, CareLink’s “Wisdom for Living” program offers a space to reflect, share, and grow. This life enrichment discussion group, introduced as part of CareLink RI’s health and wellness services, is designed to nurture the mind and spirit, promoting social and mental well-being among participants.

What is “Wisdom for Living”?

CareLink RI, a statewide nonprofit healthcare network of post-acute providers and community-based programs for older adults, developed “Wisdom for Living” to offer a meaningful way for older adults to engage with their peers and explore life’s complexities. This program goes beyond traditional social activities, providing a therapeutic and life-affirming space where participants can share their thoughts, be listened to, and find meaning and purpose in this chapter of their lives.

Dr. Michelle Meunier, CareLink’s wellness program manager, emphasizes the program’s impact: “This program challenges the mind and nurtures the spirit, which are two things that help promote social and mental wellness.” The program is available to older adults living in various settings, including senior housing, assisted living, long-term care, adult day health, and senior centers across Rhode Island.

The Benefits of “Wisdom for Living”

“Wisdom for Living” offers numerous benefits that support both personal growth and community building:

  • Personal Development: Participants explore aspects of personal growth and enhance their decision-making skills, helping them navigate life’s challenges.
  • Meaning and Purpose: The program encourages participants to discover meaning and purpose in their current phase of life, leading to positive health and wellness outcomes.
  • Building Social Connections: Facilitated by CareLink’s licensed and trained clinicians, the program promotes deeper conversations beyond surface-level interactions, reducing feelings of isolation and loneliness. This leads to enhanced wellness, empowerment, and validation among participants.
