Flipping the Script on Aging
May marks Older Americans Month, a time to acknowledge the contributions of older adults and reflect on how aging is represented in our communities, systems, and conversations.
This year’s theme—Flip the Script on Aging—urges a shift away from outdated, one-dimensional views of aging. Instead, it promotes a more accurate, inclusive understanding that recognizes the diversity of experiences and the ongoing value older adults bring to society. To support this shift, organizations and individuals are encouraged to explore the Reframing Aging Communications Toolkit. Grounded in research and tested messaging, the toolkit offers practical resources for changing how we talk about aging—moving from narratives of decline to ones that reflect resilience, engagement, and equity.
Changing the story isn’t just about language—it’s about ensuring our policies, programs, and practices are rooted in current realities, not outdated assumptions. Join the conversation this May and help flip the script on aging.
