Two in Five Rhode Island Households Struggle to Afford Food
The Rhode Island Community Food Bank has released its 2024 Status Report on Hunger in Rhode Island, revealing that nearly two out of every five households in the state struggle to afford adequate food. This marks the highest rate of food insecurity recorded, even surpassing levels observed during the pandemic.
In response to the growing need, the Food Bank distributed a record 18.3 million pounds of food from July 2023 to June 2024, serving an average of 82,600 people each month—a 15% increase over the previous year and a 50% rise compared to pre-pandemic levels. Read more…
