Every November, We Celebrate National Family Caregivers Month
While family caregivers should be honored and supported every day, November is a time to nationally recognize the incredible contributions of the over 53 million Americans who provide unpaid care to loved ones. This month, let’s come together to:
- Raise awareness about the joys and challenges of caregiving
- Educate our communities on the vital role caregivers play
- Advocate for increased support and resources for family caregivers
Family caregivers are the backbone of our healthcare system, providing an estimated $470 billion worth of unpaid care each year. Their selfless work enables loved ones to live independently and with dignity. This November, let’s take time to thank the caregivers in our lives, and work to build a society that better values and supports them year-round.
Resources
Family caregivers come in all forms – parents, children, spouses, friends, and neighbors. Each has a unique story that deserves to be heard. They are the everyday heroes providing billions in unpaid care to older adults across America. The U.S. Administration for Community Living (ACL) developed a video, highlighting the “faces of caregiving”—individual family caregiver stories demonstrating the responsibilities they take on. Share it with your network and help spread the word through social media assets developed by the National Council on Aging.
