[NEWS] Congratulations Central Falls: Rhode Island’s Newest Age-Friendly Community

We are proud of Central Falls and everyone who made this milestone possible!

In May, Mayor Maria Rivera made it official, signing a proclamation that welcomed Central Falls into the network, a proud moment for the city and its older adults.

Ten Rhode Island communities have now officially joined the AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities and the WHO Global Network for Age-Friendly Cities and Communities — a worldwide effort to build cities and towns where older adults can thrive. Central Falls joins Newport, Providence, Cranston, Westerly, Bristol, East Providence, Pawtucket, New Shoreham, and Barrington as part of this growing statewide movement.

The WHO Global Network for Age-Friendly Cities and Communities was launched in 2010 and connects more than 1,700 municipalities in more than 60 countries. The age-friendly framework helps local leaders address challenges such as social connection, support services, digital inclusion, transportation, equity, and sustainability. AARP coordinates network membership in the United States.

Age-Friendly Rhode Island is proud to support and guide communities across Rhode Island in the WHO Global Network for Age-Friendly Cities and Communities, working to make every city and town in the state a great place to grow up and grow old.

Age-Friendly RI also partners with emerging age-friendly communities, including Coventry, Jamestown, North Kingstown, Narragansett, Middletown, and South Kingstown.

Together, we are building a Rhode Island where older adults can thrive in every community across the state.
