SACRI’s 2025 Priorities Take Center Stage
At the March 2025 legislative forum titled United Voices for Meaningful Advocacy, the Senior Agenda Coalition of Rhode Island (SACRI) brought together hundreds of older adults, advocates, and lawmakers to unveil its legislative priorities. Held at the Crowne Plaza in Warwick, the event spotlighted the economic, caregiving, and civic contributions of older adults—and the pressing need for stronger policy support. Top Policy Priorities for 2025
Shaped by SACRI’s fall 2024 survey of older adults, the coalition’s agenda includes:
-
Expanding the Medicare Savings Program (MSP): Raising income and asset limits would provide up to $2,200 annually in additional income for qualifying older adults.
-
Supporting Direct-Care Workers: Advocating for higher wages and transparency in nursing home funding.
-
Investing in Senior Centers and Caregivers: Adding $600,000 to community senior center budgets and creating a caregiver tax credit.
-
Addressing Housing Insecurity: Expanding property-tax relief, ensuring accessible design in new developments, and directing more funding toward affordable senior housing.
-
Improving Primary Care Access: Calling for payment rate reviews amid provider shortages.
-
Boosting Medicaid Eligibility: Raising the asset limit from $4,000 to $12,000 to help more older adults remain at home.
