SACRI Advocates for Rhode Island’s Growing Older Adult Population
The Senior Agenda Coalition of RI (SACRI) held its annual legislative forum to advocate for the needs of Rhode Island’s growing older adult population. SACRI’s top priorities include economic security, with a focus on making healthcare more affordable for low-income older adults. They also want to see increased funding for home care services and senior centers so that older adults can stay in their homes for as long as possible. Finally, SACRI is urging lawmakers to address the lack of affordable housing options for older adults.
Lawmakers from both the House and Senate attended the forum and expressed their commitment to working on these issues. House Speaker Shekarchi highlighted the importance of supporting ADUs (Accessory Dwelling Units) as an option for older adults to live independently. Senate Majority Whip Valarie Lawson discussed the RI HEALTH Initiative, a legislative package designed to improve the affordability and accessibility of healthcare in the state.
